Maltese heraldry

The coat of arms of Malta was introduced on October 19, 1988, after 1987, the National Party came to power.

Description

It is modeled on the coat of arms from 1964, which triggered the procedure established in 1975, very modern coat of arms with the Maltese boat under the Mediterranean sun off.

The coat of arms shows a white-red divided shield with a mural crown, as a sign of sovereignty.

In the upper left ( heraldic right ) corner the Cross of St. George is depicted a military award that the entire population of Malta for their courage and bravery during the Italian and German air raids in World War II by the British King George VI. was awarded on April 15, 1942.

The shield is surrounded each one olive and a palm branch as a symbol of peace. The branches are by a ribbon with the inscription Repubblika Ta ' Malta, maltese for Republic of Malta, held together.
