Symbolism

The blue color represents the island of Madeira, the yellow or golden color for the mild climate and the areas of the island, which it owes its wealth. The cross of the Order of Christ alludes to the fact that the island was discovered by two members of this military order, who belonged to the house of Prince Henry the Navigator: João Gonçalves Zarco and Vaz Teixeira Tristão. It thus symbolizes the connection with Portugal.
