Emblem of Angola

The coat of arms of Angola is the official emblem since 1992.

Description

On a blue disc a machete and a hoe are set as the St. Andrew's cross and hover over a rising sun. A five-pointed golden star shining in the upper crest. Everything is surrounded by half a wheel on the left side and a half wreath of corn, coffee and cotton sectors in natural colors on the right side.

Below the disc an open white book and a golden banner with the state name " REPUBLICA DE ANGOLA " it.

Symbolism

The book and the sun stand for education and culture; Corn, cotton and coffee are typical agricultural products. Hoe and machete symbolize farmers and fight for freedom, gear and industrial workers, the star of progress and internationalism.

The same coat of arms was used since the November 11, 1975 Before 1992, only the name of the state was by then " People's Republic of Angola ".
