Manu KatchÃ©

Manu Katché (actually: Emmanuel Katché; born October 27, 1958 in Saint- Maur- des-Fosses, Val -de- Marne département ) is a French drummer and internationally sought-after studio musician. In addition, in appearance, it also occurs as a composer, singer, songwriter, percussionist and music producer. His musical focus is the area of rock / pop, but it also serves the genre world music and jazz.

From 2007 to 2011 he hosted (along with Alice Tumler ) that he initiated in music television show One Shot Not. It was short concerts, jam sessions and interviews with changing musicians from different musical styles presented, in part, accompanied by Manu Katché on drums. The show was broadcast weekly from the French-German cultural channel ARTE first month later.

Previously acquired Katché in his native France as a jury member of the television talent show Nouvelle Star high popularity.

Life

Manu Katché grew up near Paris. His parents are from France and the Ivory Coast. After a short period with ballet classes, he moved to the piano at age seven; from the age of 15 he made at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, a classical percussion training.

Since the early 1980s Katché could build a career as a studio and live drummer. This is thanks to his unique style and his " sound ", the particular multi-faceted use of various toms and Splash Cymbal features in his drums game.

Musical Career

In 1985 he was discovered by the English singer, musician and video artist Peter Gabriel and recorded as a permanent member in his studio band as well as his live band. The song "In Your Eyes" the album 's classic " So" (1986 ) gives an impression of Katché often songprägendem drumming. Later he played with Sting whose second solo album " ... nothing like the sun", where he demonstrated his filigree, " groovy " style of play.

There followed several hundred studio recordings and some live tours for Peter Gabriel, Sting and various other artists, including Joni Mitchell, Dire Straits, Simple Minds, Tears for Fears, Jan Garbarek, Joe Satriani, Tracy Chapman, Joan Armatrading, Al di Meola, Jeff Beck, Tori Amos, Youssou N'Dour, Manu Dibango, Gloria Estefan, Francis Cabrel, Stephan Eicher and more.

Along with Pino Palladino (bass ) and Dominic Miller ( guitar) formed Manu Katché a trio that went on numerous recordings as a rhythm section in appearance; the opportunity of the three band called The tweeters.

In 1991, Manu Katché his first (mainly of original compositions existing ) solo album "It's About Time " on, with the assistance of Peter Gabriel, Branford Marsalis, Sting and others.

In September 2005 his second solo album "Neighbourhood " was followed by the German label ECM, taken in close artistic collaboration with the music producer Manfred Eicher. Katché own compositions have been implemented by the saxophonist Jan Garbarek, and the Polish musicians Tomasz Stanko (trumpet ), Marcin Wasilewski ( piano) and Slawomir Kurkiewicz (double bass). This album was awarded the Prize of the German Record Critics' Award for jazz album of the year 2006.

In September 2007, he released his third solo album " Playground", also on ECM, with partly different crew, compared to "Neighbourhood ".

His fourth album, " Third Round " (ECM ) was published in March 2010 with again a different formation, for example, Pino Palladino (bass ) and Jason Rebello ( piano ).

In October 2012 he released his fifth album, " Manu Katché ", again on ECM. Then the Norwegians Nils Petter Molvaer looked (trumpet ) and Tore Brunborg (saxophone ) and the British keyboardist Jim Watson (piano, Hammond organ ).
