Mariano S. Otero

Mariano Sabino Otero ( born August 29, 1844 in Peralta, Mexico, † February 1, 1904 in Albuquerque, New Mexico ) was an American politician. Between 1879 and 1881 he represented the New Mexico Territory as a delegate in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years and career

Born in what is now Valencia County Mariano Otero came from a prominent political family in the New Mexico Territory. His uncle, Miguel was from 1856 to 1861 delegate of that territory in the U.S. Congress. Meanwhile, son of the same and Mariano's cousin Miguel was Governor from 1897 to 1906 in the New Mexico Territory. Mariano Otero attended private and public schools of his home and then studied at the Saint Louis University in Missouri. He then dealt with the trade and livestock and engaged in banking. Between 1871 and 1879 he was a judge in a probate court in Bernalillo County.

Political career

Mariano Otero first as a member of the Democratic Party. These nominated him in 1872 as a delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives. Otero rejected the nomination from, however, and was then a member of the Republican Party. In 1876 he was elected as a candidate of his new party to the convention delegates. In Washington, he released on March 4, 1877 from Trinidad Romero. Like its predecessor, also graduated from Otero only one term in the U.S. House of Representatives. After he had renounced in 1880 for re-election, he resigned from this Parliament on 3 March 1881.

Upon his return to New Mexico, he devoted himself to his private business. Between 1884 and 1886 he was District Administrator ( Commissioner) in Bernalillo County. In the years 1888 and 1890, he ran unsuccessfully for each return in the Congress. Since 1889 he has been resident in Albuquerque, where he dealt with the sulfur industry and banking. He is also passed in 1904.
