Thomas G. Morris

Thomas Gayle Morris ( born August 20, 1919 at the Eastland County, Texas ) is a former American politician. Between 1959 and 1969 he represented the first electoral district of the state of New Mexico in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Thomas Morris moved in his youth to New Mexico. He served in the U.S. Navy between November 12, 1937 to March 22, 1944. He then worked as a farmer and rancher in Quay County, New Mexico. Until 1948, he then studied at the University of New Mexico.

Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1953 and 1958 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from New Mexico. In the congressional elections of 1958, Thomas Morris was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. There he took over on January 3, 1959, the mandate of the deceased on March 11, 1958 John Joseph Dempsey. In the meantime, this seat was left vacant in Congress. After several re- elections Morris was able to complete in the House of Representatives until January 3, 1969 a total of five legislative sessions. In the 1968 elections he failed to Manuel Lujan, the candidate of the Republican Party.

In 1972, Thomas Morris ran unsuccessfully within his party for the nomination as a candidate for the U.S. Senate. After that, he was a consultant and vice president of Bank Securities, Inc. today Thomas Morris lives at an old age in Albuquerque.
