Médière

Médière is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Médière is located at 305 m, 2 km north-east from L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs and approximately 16 km west-southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village extends slightly elevated position at the northern edge of the valley of the Doubs at the entrance in a short valley, on the northern edge of the outermost ridges of the Jura.

The area of ​​5.73 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The southern boundary runs along the Doubs, the multiple turns in a about one kilometer wide flat Talniederung here flows to the west and is accompanied by the waterways of the Rhine- Rhone Canal. From the river, the municipality's area extends north- eastward across the alluvial plain and up to 60 m high steep slope down to the adjacent plateaus ( 340-400 m). The plateau is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, partly by forest. It is divided by two which opens at Médière in the Doubs Valley dry valleys. To the north and east the land rises gradually and reaches in the Forêt de la Chaille with 434 m the highest elevation of Médière.

Neighboring communities of Médière are Étrappe, Onan and Faimbe in the north, and La Beutal Prétière in the east, L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs in the south and Appenans in the West.

History

The territory of Médière was settled very early. On the corridor Châtelard was a Roman camp. During the Middle Ages, was a part of Médière the Lords of Neuchatel, while the other was under the Counts of Montbéliard. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Médière is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes des Isles du Doubs.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Étienne was built at the beginning of the 19th century, and enlarged the ship from 1872 to 1877. Above the village stands the statue of the Virgin Pionots. In the village are farmhouses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries have been preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté.

Population

With 315 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Médière one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Throughout the 20th century, the population fluctuated always in the range 270-360 people.

Economy and infrastructure

Médière was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are now a number of companies of the local small business sector and the retail trade. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration in Montbéliard.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road N83, which runs from Besancon to Belfort. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 9 km. Another important road connection with Montbéliard.
