Mendocino AVA

Mendocino AVA ( recognized since 15 June 1984) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of California. The area is located near the town of Ukiah in Mendocino County coastal management area, north of the known lands of Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley. In addition to already existing sub-regions are currently running at the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau method of setting up new AVAs in the valleys Sanel Valley and Ukiah Valley along the Russian River. The growing area Mendocino AVA is known for the cultivation of late-ripening varieties Carignan, Charbono, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Zinfandel. In the cooler region of Anderson Valley Pinot Noir is grown. This sub-region is known for its sparkling wine production.
