Miami Masters

The Miami Masters ( officially Sony Open Tennis ) is a men's tennis tournament, which will be held in the spring on the island of Key Biscayne near Miami. The tournament was originally conceived by Butch Buchholz in order to be classified as a fifth Grand Slam tournament, the idea was a kind of "Winter Wimbledon ". This ambition has not today. 2000 it was recorded as one of the former super -9 tournaments in the third-highest category of tournaments in the men's tour (after the Grand Slam tournaments and the ATP World Tour Finals ) and is now the second of nine tournaments in the Masters Series. The venue is the Tennis Center at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne, a suburb of Miami.

As the only Masters Tournament next Indian Wells Masters, Miami has a 96- peloton.

Record winner with six titles is Andre Agassi. The Miami Masters will be held just after the Indian Wells Masters, so it is considered a special performance to win both tournaments in a row. This was so far seven players: Jim Courier (1991 ), Michael Chang ( 1992), Pete Sampras (1994 ), Marcelo Rios ( 1998), Andre Agassi (2001), Roger Federer (2005 & 2006) and Novak Djokovic ( 2011 & 2014 ); double this succeeded the " Woodies " Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde in 1996, Wayne Black and Sandon Stolle in 1999, Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor in 2002, and the twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan in 2014.

The name of the tournament was officially from 1985-1999 Lipton International Players Championships, followed by the respective sponsors Ericsson Open in 2000 and 2001, from 2002 to 2006 NASDAQ -100 Open, from 2007 to 2012 Sony Ericsson Open. Since 2013, the tournament under the name Sony Open Tennis is played.
