Niscemi

Niscemi is a city in the province of Caltanissetta in the Italian region Sicily, with 27 936 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Niscemi is located 88 km south-east of Caltanissetta. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture and in industry.

The neighboring municipalities are Caltagirone (CT ), Gela and Mazzarino.

History

The town was founded in 1626. During an earthquake in 1693, the town was badly damaged. The site was later rebuilt on the same site.
