Non Thai District

Amphoe Non Thai ( Thai: อำเภอ โนนไทย ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the province of Nakhon Ratchasima. The Nakhon Ratchasima province is located in the northeast region of Thailand, the so-called Isaan.

Geography

Amphoe Non Thai borders the following districts (from north clockwise): Amphoe Phra Thong to the Kham Kham Sakaesaeng, Non Sung, Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima, Kham Thale So and Dan Khun Thot. All Amphoe located in the province of Nakhon Ratchasima.

History

The name of this area wr originally Khwaeng San Thia ( แขวง สัน เที ยะ ). In 1900 Khwaeng San Thia was promoted to a Amphoe and renamed Non Lao. Already in the following year the name was changed back to San Thia, 1919 again in non Lao. In the course of a growing Thai Nationalism under Field Marshal Phibun Songkhram Plaek the name was changed in 1939 in Non Thai to obliterate any reference to Laos and the Lao population.

Management

Amphoe Non Thai is divided into ten sub-districts ( tambon), which in turn together hold 131 municipalities ( Muban ).

There are three small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • Non Thai ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล โนนไทย ), consisting of parts of the tambon Non Thai,
  • Khok Sawai ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล โคก สวาย ), consisting of parts of the tambon Sai O,
  • Banlang ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บัลลังก์ ), consisting of the whole tambon Banlang.

There are also nine administrative organizations ( " Tambon Administrative Organizations" - TAO, Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ).

Note: The missing numbers refer to the tambon which now belong to Phra Thong Kham.
