Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965–1968

Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From the First Psychedelic Era, 1965-1968 is a sampler with U.S. pop and rock songs of middle to late 1960s, which are often referred to as garage rock. The sampler is considered by many writers and music critics as decisive for the development of punk music.

Genesis

Was assembled by Jac Holzman, the double album, the founder of Elektra Records, and Lenny Kaye, who later became the guitarist for the Patti Smith Group was. Nuggets was released in 1972 on Elektra Records in 1976 and re-released with new cover on Sire Records. The accompanying text, written by Lenny Kaye, contains one of the earliest mentions of the term "punk rock".

Contrary to what one might think many of the songs top 40 were hits in the U.S.: more than a third of the original Nuggets belong to it, and Rhino's advanced box contained a million sellers such as " Incense and Peppermints " by Strawberry Alarm Clock (1st place), " Louie, Louie "by The Kingsmen (2nd place), " Wooly Bully " by Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs (2nd place), " Little Bit O'Soul "by The Music explosion (2nd place) and" Time Will not Let Me "from The Outsiders ( 5th place).

Reception

The reduced music of bands like 13th Floor Elevators, The Electric Prunes, Blues Magoos and Chocolate Watchband met with the young musicians of the 1970s with open ears. Nuggets received good reviews and peaked at number 196 on the list of " The 500 best albums of all time (according to Rolling Stone ) ". Unlike the other albums on this list but it took until nuggets appeared on CD. Only in 1998 brought Rhino Records issued a CD with the original title sequence and the original accompanying text, but added three more CDs with 91 additional tracks added. Rhino Records was also responsible for the second part of the sampler, which was released in 2001 and the years of 1964 - covering the UK in 1969. Also this time it's in the compilation to a box with four CDs.

Jon Savage called nuggets in his book England 's Dreaming, about the history of the British punk movement, significant influence and puts it next to the Stooges ' Raw Power LP.
