Oldenburg International Film Festival

The Oldenburg International Film Festival is a German festival for independent film productions. It takes place annually since 1994 over five days in the second week of September in Oldenburg instead. The focus of the festival is in German and American productions, which account for more than half of the program. On display are some 50 films and 20 short films. Next are special series, tributes and retrospectives honoring exceptional filmmakers and actors on the program.

Chronicle

The Oldenburg International Film Festival was founded in 1994 by Torsten Neumann and Thorsten Ritter, with the aim to establish an unconventional and innovative festival. 1998 Thorsten Ritter left the festival; since Torsten Neumann leads the festival as festival director and program manager in one.

Main sponsor of the festival is the Oldenburgische Landesbank, premium sponsors are the EWE AG and CEWE. The main sponsors of the festival are the North media - The media company Niedersachsen / Bremen mbH and the city of Oldenburg.

German Independence Award - Best German Film

Since 2004, the German Independence Award at the International Filmfest Oldenburg - awarded Best German Film, endowed with 8,000 euros. The Film Prize, dedicated exclusively to the independent filmmaking in the German area, will be awarded by an international jury of five members. The award went to

German Independence Award - Best Short Film

The German Independence Award - Best Short Film is the youngest prize at the International Film Festival Oldenburg. It is awarded by a national jury. The winners were:

Otto Sprenger Price

2007 was presented at the International Film Festival Oldenburg first time the Otto Sprenger Prize for the best film of a young North German filmmaker. He went to the movie For the unfamiliar dog of Benjamin Reding and Dominik Reding brothers. Previously the price was presented at the Hamburg Film Festival. Among the previous winners include Fatih Akin, Detlev Buck and Caroline Link.

2008, the award went to Emily Atef for the film The Stranger in Me.

Seymour Cassel Award

The award for outstanding acting performances in 2012 was awarded for the first time.
