Omega European Masters

The Omega European Masters is a traditional golf tournament on the PGA European Tour, which is held every year in early September. Since the introduction of the European Tour in 1971, the event is a fixed component in the calendar this premier tournament series.

History

The predecessor to this Tournament were the Swiss Open which was first performed in 1923, and the Scots Alec Ross ( winner of the U.S. Open in 1907 ) recorded as the winner. By 1981 the event ran under that name, Ebel 1982 Swiss Open, and then the name was extended to Ebel European Masters Swiss Open. For one year ( 1991) was named the tournament Canon European Masters Swiss Open, and 1992 to 2000 Canon European Masters. Since 2001 is the name Omega European Masters.

Venue

The tournament will be located on the at 1500m above sea level, Golf Club Crans -sur -Sierre discharged. The course impressed by the panorama of the surrounding Valais Alps. Because of the altitude, the clearances larger by about 10 percent, resulting especially in the Drives Tour player to remarkable lengths.

Purse

The total allocation to the Omega European Masters is currently € 2 million, and thus is somewhat below the average prize money on the European Tour.
