Oussama Mellouli (Arabic أسامة الملولي, DMG Usama al - Maluli; ​​born 16 February 1984 in Tunis ) is a Tunisian swimmer.

Career

Mellouli won the bronze medal over 400 m medley at the World Swimming Championships in 2003 in Barcelona. At the 2005 World Championships in Montreal, he also won the bronze medal over 400 m medley and the 400m freestyle. At the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne, he became a champion over 800 m freestyle and second in the 400m freestyle.

Mellouli has been tested on 30 November 2006 at the U.S. Open in West Lafayette ( Indiana) positive for the amphetamine Adderall. In September 2007, the International Court of Sport (CAS ) therefore imposed a ban of 18 months, retroactive to 30 November 2006. All results falling within this period were canceled.

At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing Mellouli won the gold medal in the 1500 m freestyle and thus prevented a hat-trick of Australian Grant Hackett, who won this discipline at both the 2004 Olympic Games as well as in the 2000 Olympics for themselves.

At the 2009 World Championships in Rome, he won the gold medal in the 1500 meters freestyle and two silver medals over 400 meters and 800 meters freestyle.

With regard to the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he began to focus on the open water swimming. There he first won bronze over 1500 m freestyle. His greatest victory in London was winning the gold medal in the 10 km marathon in 1:49:55,1.
