Pablo Cuevas

Pablo Gabriel Cuevas ( born January 1, 1986 in Montevideo) is an Uruguayan tennis player.

Career

Cuevas, older brother of tennis player Martín Cuevas, took part with the Uruguayan team at the South America Games in 2002 in Brazil. In 2003, he won his first tournament in Uruguay. In 2004, Cuevas professional. In his first year as a pro, he made his debut in the Davis Cup against Haiti. In 2005, he won his first title at a Futures tournament in Argentina, a little later he was victorious in a Futures tournament in Venezuela. His first doubles title he won in 2006 in Montauban in a smaller tournament. He collected more victories in smaller tournaments.

The biggest success of his previous single career is to reach the semi-finals of Hamburg. Making his first appearance in a single at a Grand Slam tournament celebrated Cuevas on 27 August 2007 at the U.S. Open, but he left in the first round against the British Andy Murray with 2:6, 3:6 and 0:6 from.

In double Cuevas reached its greatest success so far. On the side of the Peruvian Luis Horna he won the French Open in 2008, when he won with his partner in the final against Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic in straight sets ( 6-2, 6-3 ). He also reached the finals in Houston in 2008. In 2009 he was able to record two more successes in doubles. Overall, Cuevas has not won eight Challengertitel in singles, and 13 in doubles.

In 2010 he played in the first tennis league in the then reigning German champions TK Kurhaus Lambertz Aachen. In 2011 he was also reported, but denied not a game.

Since 2004 Pablo Cuevas plays for the Uruguayan Davis Cup team.

Awards

As part of the Honors of the best Uruguayan athletes of the period 2009-2010 ( " Deportista del Año " ) he was on 28 March 2011 by the Comité Olímpico Uruguayan Teatro Solís both as the best sportsman of the year 2009 as well as the best sportsman of the year 2010 in the category " Tennis " award.
