Pachino

Pachino is a city of Syracuse in Sicily region of Italy with 22,001 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Pachino is 53 km southwest of Syracuse. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture in the wine and tomatoes ( Pomodoro di Pachino ), and fisheries in the district Marzamemi.

The neighboring municipalities are Portopalo di Capo Passero, rosolini, Pozzallo, Sampieri and Noto.

History

Here people have lived already in the past. The present town was founded in 1758. Residents of Malta have settled here.

  • The beach ( Morghella, Punta delle Formiche ( Concerie ), Costa dell'Ambra and Granelli ) and the coast of Pachino and the district Marzamemi, a former fishing village
  • Riserva Naturale Oasi di Vendicari faunistica, a nature reserve north of Pachino
