Melilli

Melilli is a city of Syracuse in Sicily region of Italy with 13,322 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Melilli located 26 km north- west of Syracuse. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture, in construction and in quarries. More jobs are available in the industrial complex in Augusta- Priolo, a production facility for petroleum products.

The neighboring communities are Augusta, Carlentini, Priolo Gargallo, Siracusa and Sortino.

History

In the Middle Ages Melilli belonged to Augusta.

24 July 2009 was measured at 47.0 ° C one of the highest temperatures of the earth in the district of Villa Mundo.
