Cassaro

Cassaro is a city of Syracuse in Sicily region of Italy with 804 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Cassaro is located 40 km west of Syracuse. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture and in gravel pits.

The neighboring municipalities are Buscemi, Ferla, Palazzolo Acreide and Sortino.

History

Cassaro is named after an Arab castle " Casar ". Over the centuries, the fief of Moleti family and later belonged Spadafora. Margherita Moleti - Spadafora brought the fief in marriage to Baron Pietro Siracusa ( Siracusa family ) from the town of Noto, who already had the baronies Muscia, Xiridia (now Floridia ) and Monastero possessed. He also took the investiture of the fief Cassaro, as is apparent from documents of the State Archives of Palermo and from the Capibreve Barbieri. His only daughter Margherita brought the feud in the house Gaetani di Sortino.
