Pat McCormick (diver)

Patricia Joan McCormick ( born May 12, 1930 in Seal Beach, California as Patricia Joan Keller) is a former American Water Diving. As far the only water jumper she could win both the springboard and the platform diving in two consecutive Olympics.

In 1948 she narrowly missed out on qualifying for the London Olympics at the U.S. Trials. There, won the U.S. vaulter Victoria Draves was the first woman both the springboard and the platform diving.

1949 married Patricia Keller their coach Glenn McCormick, a trained aircraft engineer. Also in 1949, she won her first U.S. title in platform diving. After winning in 1950, all three outdoor titles ( diving, springboard and 1- meter board ), it succeeded in 1951 as the first five league titles in the same year to win two indoor titles and three outdoor titles. At the Pan American Games in 1951 in Buenos Aires, she won in diving and was runner-up in springboard diving.

Your first Olympic medals she won at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki. In the art of jumping she won with 7.9 points ahead of the French Mady Moreau; from the tower she won with 7.5 points ahead of her compatriot Paula Myers, Juno Irwin completed as third parties the triumph of the U.S. jumpers.

In 1955 she won at the Pan American Games in Mexico City gold from the board and from the tower. In the spring of 1956 their son was born. In December 1956, she competed in Melbourne at the Olympic Games. In diving, she won with 16.4 points ahead of her compatriot Jeanne Stunyo. In diving, she won with 3.2 points ahead of Juno Irwin and Paula Myers, who could repeat the triple success of 1952. That same year, McCormick was awarded the Sportsman of the Year Award from the Associated Press.

Total Patricia McCormick won four Olympic gold medals, three gold and two silver medals at the Pan American Games and 27 national titles. Her daughter Kelly McCormick won two Olympic medals in the 1980s. In 1965 it was included in the opening into the hall of fame of the international swimming sport.
