Raf (singer)
Raf, in the German language initially also Raff, ( born September 29, 1959 in Margherita di Savoia, Italy; actually Raffaele Riefoli ) is an Italian singer and songwriter. His biggest hit ( Self Control ) he had in the summer of 1984, in the late 1980s, he has changed in Italian sung songs.
Biography
Raised in Florence Raffaele Riefoli settled in the early 1980s to London and began writing songs. He initially found no record company wanted to release Self Control or Change Your Mind. Only after the song was was covered by the American singer Laura Branigan and successfully placed in the charts, Raf got a record deal and released their own version of this song. This resulted in a number of countries that both versions were in the charts simultaneously. The different spelling of his stage name originated outside Italy due to the likelihood of confusion with the terrorist group Red Army Faction (RAF ). In the summer of 1984 Self Control took in the German single charts at the same place and one 2nd place: 1st place in the cover version by Laura Branigan, the original of Raf ( f) was it successful in the nightclubs. In the Format radio today dominates the version of Laura Branigan.
In duet with Umberto Tozzi Raf represented Italy at Euro Vision Song Contest 1987 with the song written by two Gente di mare and was ranked third in the Swiss charts, the song peaked at # 7
