Rammersmatt

Rammersmatt is a commune with 220 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district Thann, Thann to Canton and was founded in 2004 Association of Municipalities Pays de Thann.

Geography

The village is at the southeastern edge of the Rammersmatt Vosges nestled away between the valley of Thann and Masevaux about 20 km from Mulhouse in the east and 30 km from Belfort to the southwest. The place is surrounded by extensive woodland areas, only in the south to the hilly landscape opens towards the neighboring villages Bourbach -le- Bas and Roderen. The municipality is located in the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

History

The name of the village goes back to the German family name Ramprecht. In 1323, he appears as Ramprechtes mats in the sources. Rammersmatt was formerly a lease of the priory of Saint- Morand. In the Thirty Years' War, the village was destroyed. Then it was abandoned for a long time.

Demographics

Rammersmatt is the smallest village of Thann region. After a slight decline in population in the early 1960s the town has since seen a slow but constant growth of the population. The proportion of under 30 -year-old in 1999 was well over 30 % of the over 60 -year-old a little over 20%.

  • The church of Saint -Jean Gualbert has a Gothic church tower from the 13th century.
