Rated R is the fourth studio album by the singer Rihanna. It was recorded in 2009 and released on 20 November in the same year under her label Def Jam Recordings.

Background

Rihanna's previous album Good Girl Gone Bad (2007) was a commercial success and received generally positive reviews from most music critics. The album included five Top Ten hits, three U.S. number one hit singles, including the international breakthrough single, Umbrella. With regard to Rated R, there was much speculation as to whether any of the songs on the album would act by her ex- boyfriend Chris Brown. In an interview with MTV presented Ne -Yo, who had written in the past, songs for Rihanna, realized that he had not left any song for them on Brown, because of his friendship with Brown. Producer Chuck Harmony said that no matter what song will be released as the first single, people will immediately think of the song handle Brown.

In an interview with Marc Malkin at the MTV Video Music Awards Ne-Yo said that people should expect an edgier and angrier Rihanna on the album. Later he told In Touch Weekly that the album will definitely Kant objectors than the way we were accustomed Rihanna while he recorded the album "liberated" as describes. Formation

The album was recorded within eight months from March to November 2009. The recordings took place in Los Angeles in the Milk Studios in Manhattan, New York City, Metropolis Studios in London, Studios Davout in Paris and the Westlake Recording Studios. It has collaborated with songwriters like Chuck Harmony, The- Dream, Christopher " Tricky " Stewart Chase & Status, and Stargate. It turned out later that Stargate collaboration between Rihanna and Canadian rapper Drake produced. Finally, it has not done for unknown reasons in the album the song.

On October 19, 2010, a picture book called Rihanna was released, the history of Rated R also showing part of her Last Girl on Earth Tour. Rihanna created the book together with the art director Simon Henwood. Rihanna herself said: "It's a picture book with images that have never seen the man. It is like a backstage pass, like a fashion book. It is a creation of the Rated R album from step to step. It shows all the way to what the album and the tour are now, as they were created and how it came about. "This book is available in hardcover and paperback. The title of the book should actually Rihanna: The Last Girl on Earth hot. It was decided later but for Rihanna only. It is available in English only.

Reception

Andy Kellman of Allmusic noted the " provocative " content and presentation of the album, he spoke of "Good girl gone evil" (eg, " Good Girl, which has become evil" ), though some "over the top " exaggerated, either. The rating was four out of five stars.

Commercial success

Rated R debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 chart with 181,000 copies sold in its first week and thus dominates the sales of the last album, Good Girl Gone Bad in the week of release. It also reached number one on the Billboard Top R & B / Hip- Hop Albums charts, which previously got any of their albums. On January 8, 2010 Rated R was certified platinum for one million copies sold.

In the United Kingdom, the album debuted at number 16 and was awarded after only four days with Gold. So far, it sold 300.000 copies and was certified platinum. On 1 August, the album was represented 36 weeks in the charts.

Although the album debuted at number 15 in Australia only, the album sold in the 2nd week in August with Platinum for more than 70,000 copies were certified gold. With the release of the third single Rude Boy Rated R rose to a new record position twelve. In Poland, the album reached number five and was certified gold with sales of 20,000 units in just one month, and thus beat the sales of its predecessor, which has sold 20,000 copies in two years. In Sweden, the album reached number 19 in New Zealand and number 14 in Finland ranked 15th until May 2010, Rated R has sold nearly 3 million copies worldwide.

In Switzerland, the album reached number one on the album charts and was certified platinum. In Austria it reached number seven and in Germany and was awarded fourth place in the latter country with gold.
