Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane

The Archdiocese of Brisbane (lat.: Archidioecesis Brisbanensis ) is a Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Brisbane, Australia.

History

Under Pope Pius IX. was founded on April 12, 1859 from the Archdiocese of Sydney out the Diocese of Brisbane. First bishop was the Irishman James Quinn ( 1819-1881 ). 1877 Apostolic Vicariate of Queensland was founded in 1941 the Diocese of Cairns. 1882, the spin-off of the Diocese of Rockhampton. Took place on April 20, 1934 by Pope Leo XIII. elevation to the archbishopric. In 1929 the spin-off of the Diocese of Toowoomba. The suffragan of Townsville was established in 1930 from the Diocese of Rockhampton out.

Archdiocese

The Archdiocese of Brisbane ranges in the south of the border of the states of Queensland and New South Wales and heads north about 350 km along the East Coast and the Sunshine Coast of Queensland about Gin Gin to Maryborough. In the west, reached the territory of the Archdiocese of Eidsvold and Gatton and runs in a southerly direction over Auburn and Blackbutt down to McPherson Range on the border of Queensland / New South Wales.
