Roman Čechmánek

Roman Cechmanek ( born March 2, 1971 in Gottwaldov ) is a former Czech professional ice hockey goaltender of the four seasons for the Philadelphia Flyers and the Los Angeles Kings graduated in his long career in the National Hockey League and five times won the Czech championship. He also won three world titles and was 1998 Olympic gold medalist in Nagano.

Career

Roman Cechmanek began his career with a club from his birthplace, the TJ Gottwaldov, where he worked in the 1989/90 season first inserts in the top division of Czechoslovakia, the first league received. The season 1990/91 he spent at Dukla Jihlava and ASD TŽ Třinec - at the end of the season he was Czechoslovakian with Jihlava as a substitute goalkeeper champion. In the following two years he was playing for his hometown club TJ Gottwaldov, TJ DS Olomouc and HC Baník Hodonín on the ice.

It was used regularly but only after joining the HC Vsetín for season 1993/94, with the 1994 he moved up from the second league, the first league, reached in the Extraliga. A year later he won with the club for the first time the Czech championship and was voted the best goalkeeper in the league. Over the next four seasons, followed by four more championships with Vsetin.

In 2000 he left after eight years of the club and moved to North America to the Philadelphia Flyers, who had recently moved him to a total of 171 post in the NHL Entry Draft in 2000. There Cechmanek quickly established itself as a first-choice goalkeeper, reached with the club in the first two seasons, the play-offs and was invited to the 2001 All- Star Game. In the season 2002/ 03 he won the William M. Jennings Trophy as goalkeeper of the team with the fewest goals against. After this season, he moved to the Los Angeles Kings, where he still played a year in the NHL. For 2004/ 05, the season of the NHL lockout, he returned for a year to the Czech Republic back to HC Vsetin.

When, after the end of the lockout were no offers for involvement in the NHL, Cechmanek remained in Europe, but moved shortly after the season starts by the Czech extra league team HC Energie Karlovy Vary in the DEL for the Hamburg Freezers, which due to injuries on the search for a keeper were. After being excreted in the Freezers in the quarter-finals of the play- offs, he joined the Swedish Elitserien for Linköpings HC. At the end of the season he moved to the Czech first division club HC Ocelari Třinec with which he qualified for the playoffs. In the following two years he was game for more for Třinec in the Extraliga on the ice before he announced the end of his career in August 2009.

Internationally

His debut for a selection of the Czech Ice Hockey Association celebrated Cechmanek at the Junior World Championships in 1991, where he won the bronze medal with the team of the former Czechoslovakia. For the senior team, he played for the first time at the World Championships in 1995. Additional inserts at the World Championships he won in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2004 and 2007.

He won with the team the title three times and twice the bronze medal. He also played for his country at the 1998 Olympics ( gold medal ) and 2002 (7th place ) and at the World Cup of Hockey 1996.
