Ropraz is a municipality in the district Broye Vully the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Ropraz is located at 748 m above sea level. M., 27 km southwest of the district town Payerne ( straight line ). The village is located on a plateau on the eastern slopes of the Jorat, west of the Valley of Bressonne, in the Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​4.8 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehöhen between the Jorat and the upper reaches of the Broye. Population

With 367 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Ropraz is one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 87.1 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.0 % and 2.4 % speak Serbo-Croatian (as of 2000). The population of Ropraz amounted in 1900 to 292 inhabitants. Thereafter, through constant migration to 1960 recorded a decrease to 205 inhabitants; Since then, the population grew significantly again.

Economy

Ropraz was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the crop and livestock farming have a certain role in the occupational structure of the population. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1234 under the name Rospraz. Later the names Roppra and Rosprad published. The place name derives probably from French pré rond (round meadow).

Ropraz belonged in the Middle Ages to the rule Vulliens. After 1327 were due to Erbgängen and selling numerous changes of ownership, and Ropraz formed at times also has its own rule. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the bailiwick Moudon. Attractions
