Rousset, Bouches-du-Rhône
Rousset is a commune with 4478 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Bouches -du -Rhône in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.
Geography
The municipality is located sixteen kilometers east of Aix -en- Provence in the fertile basin of Trets. Neighboring municipalities are Ste Victoire Puyloubier, Châteauneuf -le- Rouge and Peynier. The municipality is part of the Communauté d' agglomération du Pays d' Aix.
History
124 BC, the region was conquered by the Romans. A battle took place near 102 BC Rousset, when the Romans conquered. 1050 the village was first mentioned in documents as Rousselun. In the Middle Ages there was a castle, the village developed around which. Later, the community was affected by the wars of religion, but in the following period, the population continued to increase. In 1861 the present church was built.
