Sächsische Schweiz

The county Saxon Switzerland from 1994 to 2008, a district in Saxony. In the course of district reform in Saxony in 2008 it was merged with the neighboring west Weißeritzkreis for District Saxon Switzerland & Eastern Ore Mountains, where Pirna became the common county seat.

Geography

The county Saxon Switzerland was southeast of the state capital Dresden. Adjacent areas were the Czech Ústí nad Labem Region in the east and south, the Weißeritzkreis in the West, Dresden in the northwest and the north, the counties Kamenz and Bautzen. The core area of the circle included the Saxon Switzerland, in the northeast but also the foothills of the Lusatian hill country and in the West, the precursor of the Ore Mountains. Economy

There used to be in the Elbe Valley to Heidenau and Pirna much industry, such as pulp mills and tire industry. Road network

History

The circle was at the Saxon district reform on 1 August 1994 from the circles Sebnitz and Pirna and thus resembled the surface of old cut Amtshauptmannschaft Pirna (up to 1952).
