Sankt Johann am Walde

St. Johann am Walde ( also Sankt Johann am Walde ) is a municipality with 2041 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the west of Upper Austria, the Innviertel. The competent court is the district court district Mattighofen.

Geography

St. Johann am Walde is located at 623 m altitude on the Kobernaußerwald. The extension is from north to south 10.6 kilometers, from west to east 7.2 km. The total area is 40 km ². 64.5 % of the area is forested, 31.5% of the area is used for agriculture.

Origin of the name

The parish church was built in the late 13th century, instead of hunting chapel. It is dedicated to St. John the Baptist, it was built in the vernacular Sailiga ( blessed ) Hans, now they say Saiga Hans. The place was then called St. in Püchen (p. Johans in the Puechen, 1580 ) Johann.

Coat of arms

Official description of the municipality coat of arms: Shared; above in green diagonally crossed a golden, slanted left ax and a golden book sheet, bottom in gold three red, two -to-one asked, wide-brimmed hats. The municipality colors are green and yellow.

The adopted by the City Council on March 4, 1983 municipal coat of arms was created within a competition in the community and approved by the Upper Austrian Provincial Government on 18 April 1983. The ax refers both to the local saint and to the strong prevailing forestry. The book sheet commemorates the first mention of the place. The red holiday hats in the lower crest half were, according to oral tradition, the distinguishing feature of the first settlers clearing, the Spießmoja farmers.

History

The town originated as early as the 13th century around the church, and was the center of a major logging area, as it shows the coat of arms.

Since the establishment of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place was Bavarian until 1779 and came to the Peace of Teschen with the Innviertel (then ' Innbaiern ') to Austria.   • Beandhaus St. Johann am Walde: The Beandhaus is the only museum in St. Johann am Walde. The name is derived from the name of the former inhabitants of the house.   • Ms. Ecker shear beer tent: It is annually organized mostly in the last week of August, of the volunteer fire department Frauschereck.
