Seán Etchingham

John ( Seán ) Etchingham ( Irish: Seán Eichingeam; unknown *, † April 23, 1923 ) was an Irish Sinn Féin politician.

Biography

Etchingham, who worked as a journalist, became involved early in the independence movement and was not only a member of Sinn Féin, but also the Irish Volunteers, Conradh na Gaeilge and the Irish Republican Brotherhood in 1916 and took active part in the Easter Uprising.

In the elections for the House of Commons (House of Commons ), he was elected as a deputy in 1918, representing the constituency of East Wicklow. In 1919, then as the candidate of Sinn Féin his election as deputies ( Teachta Dala ) of the first Irish House ( Dáil Éireann ). There he first represented the constituency of Wicklow East and then from 1921 to 1922 Wexford.

During this time he was first on 29 June 1920 to the August 26, 1921 Director of the fishing industry. Then he was on 26 August 1921 to the January 9, 1922 Minister of Fisheries as such was, however, no member of the Cabinet.

In the general election, 1922, he suffered an election defeat and retired from the Dáil from. During the Irish Civil War, he was most recently within the cleaved due to the Anglo -Irish Treaty Sinn Féin to the opponents of this Agreement ( anti - Treaty ). As such, he was arrested a short time later and died during detention time due to his poor health condition.
