Serge Savard

Serge Aubrey Savard, OC, CQ ( born January 22, 1946 in Montreal, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach, who played from 1966 to 1983 for the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League.

Career

He was an outspoken opponent with power in ice hockey and always a fair defender in his hometown, who had already played with the Montreal Junior Canadiens. In his 15 years in Montreal, he was together with Larry Robinson and Guy Lapointe to the "Big Three". 1968, 1969, 1973 and 1976 to 1979, he won seven times the Stanley Cup. A success prevented an injury when his team had to win the Cup in 1971 without him. After he had actually already finished his career, the Winnipeg Jets persuaded him once more to go on. Savard succeeded with 48 points to lead the Jets in the playoffs. He played a good role in the Summit Series in 1972. He was the only player in Team Canada, who was only in games won thereby.

In 1986, he was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
