Sergei Shakhrai

Sergei Semenovich Schachrai (Russian: Сергей Семёнович Шахрай; born June 28, 1958 in Moscow ) is a Russian former figure skater, who started in pair skating for the Soviet Union.

Schachrais figure skating partner was Marina Cherkasova. Training was the pair of Stanislav Zhuk. Schachrai was 18 and Cherkasova age 12, when she ran together for the first time. Between the two was at this time a size difference of 35 cm, as Cherkasova was only 1.38 m tall.

With his 12 -year-old partner Schachrai won the bronze medal with his European Championship debut in 1977 in Helsinki. His first World Cup ended the pair in the same year in fourth place. By 1981, Cherkasova had so much to put on size and weight that Schachrai they could not lift enough. Your last medal won bronze behind the couple with Irina and Igor Worobjowa Lissowski and Tina Riegel and Andrew Nischwitz at the European Championships 1981 in Innsbruck. At the World Cup, it was enough only for fourth place.
