History

The first mention of this place can be found in the deed of gift of the king D.Sancho I., who gave the territory of Soveral on October 1, 1186 the bishop of Évora, D.Paio. In the course of time, a populous village on Monte Agraço (English: Mountain Agraço ) developed, near the church Igreja de São Salvador and located the city hall.

King D.João I. rewarded with some privileges in 1386 the loyalty of the place in the revolution in 1383, with the independence of the Kingdom of Portugal was secured. King D.Manuel I gave Monte Agraço 1518 city rights.

In the area of Sobral de Monte Agraço General Wellington, built in 1810, some of his fortifications of the lines of Torres Vedras, a line of defense against the Napoleonic invasions. An independent group was Sobral de Monte Agraço 1821. During the administrative reforms of the Liberal Revolution in 1822 the county was dissolved in 1832, and restored in 1836. In 1887, he was merged with Arruda dos Vinhos and was the seat of the new circle to be detached and independent again since 1898.

Traffic

With Pero Negro and Sapataria two break points of the railway line Linha do Oeste are in the district, but has the Sobral approximately 5 km east of the station Pero Negro lying de Monte Agraço not have its own train station.

The A8 motorway is approximately 8 km away, the next driveway No.8 ( Enxara do Bispo ). The national road N248 passes through the city and connects it to the 18km northeast lying Torres Vedras and 10 km southeast lying Arruda dos Vinhos.

The public transport system is operated by private bus companies lines.
