Sourans

Sourans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Sourans is located at 370 m, about 17 km southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the valley of the Ruisseau de Sourans south and north of the Doubstals Lomont in the extreme northern hills of the Jura.

The area of ​​4.20 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the valley of the Ruisseau de Sourans which has a maximum of 300 m wide, flat valley floor. The creek drains the area north to the Ruisseau du Bié and thus to the Doubs. The valley is about 50 to 100 m cut into the surrounding heights, which form a panel jurassic -like plateau at the northern foot of the Lomont. With 558 m of the plateau is at Goux -les- Dambelin reached the highest elevation of Sourans at the edge. The landscape shows a loose structure of arable and meadow land and forest land.

At the hamlet of Le Sourans Rochet (410 m) is at the height west of the Sourans Valley. Neighboring communities of Sourans are Saint -Maurice- Colombier in the north, Goux -les- Dambelin in the east, and Hyémondans Lanthenans in the south and Blussans in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Sourans belonged to the rule Granges, which came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard in the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Sourans is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes des Isles du Doubs.

Population

With 133 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Sourans is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1886 142 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1960s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Sourans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs after Hyémondans. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 10 km. Further road links exist with Lanthenans and Goux -les- Dambelin.
