Sportaccord

SportAccord (proper spelling SportAccord, better known under the old name ( renamed 1 April 2009) General Association of International Sports Federations ( Abbr: GAISF, German: General Association of International Sports Federations, French: Association Générale des Fédérations International de Sports, AGFIS ); often referred to as SportAccord / GAISF ) is the central umbrella organization of sports federations worldwide. Overall, you are 109 organizations (as of June 2013), including sports associations (such as the IAAF or FIFA ), as well as sports organizations with specific areas of responsibility (such as the IWGA ), but not the IOC.

Organization

The highest decision-making body is the General Assembly, which takes place in May each year at different locations. Entitled to vote, the individual member associations are independent of their size.

The association was founded as a General Assembly of International Sports Federations in 1967 in Lausanne and renamed the General Association of International Sports Federations in 1976; since April 2009, the Association finally called SportAccord. Your start-up and current seat is in Lausanne; 1978-2009 however, it was Monaco. The current President is the Romanian Marius Vizer, at the time of his election President of the International Judo Federation.

Condition for inclusion is the worldwide spread of a sport. As a rule - to competing international sports federations - only an association incorporated each sport. On their inclusion will be decided by an absolute majority.

Importance

While the International Olympic Committee only recognizes a total of 68 trade associations (October 2012), the number of member associations of SportAccord is considerably larger and also includes many little-known sports in Europe. Since the start of the FIA Motorsport Association in May 2013 to include all major sports federations SportAccord, the - is therefore considered as the highest body of world sport - despite limited resources and competencies.

Competitions
