Stephan Görgl

Stephan Goergl ( born June 5, 1978 in Bruck an der Mur ) is a former Austrian alpine skier, the most powerful disciplines were the giant slalom and Super -G. He is the son of Traudl Hecher and Anton Görgl. His sister Elisabeth Goergl is also a ski racer. In his career, which was interrupted several times by injuries, he achieved success in the European Cup next two World Cup victories.

Biography

Görgl attended after primary school for two years the Bundesrealgymnasium in Kapfenberg, then moved to the Skihauptschule Schladming and then visited the Skigymnasium in Stams, where he graduated in 1999. After initial operations in FIS races Görgl in 1994 and 1995 in his age group twice Austrian Junior Champion. The first missions in the European Cup followed in 1997 - initially without major success. At the Junior World Championships in 1997 and 1998 he drove in the giant slalom both times just below the top ten. In the season 1999/2000 Görgl get the first podium in the European Cup, which in the following winter, on 19 January 2001, followed by the first victory in the Super -G of Altenmarkt. Nine days later he arrived at the age of 22 years already to his debut in the World Cup. He finished this super-G in Garmisch -Partenkirchen on 27 position and immediately won the World Cup points. Next winter 2001/2002 Goergl came in the World Cup already often used where it reached early in the season as the best result for the time being a tenth place in the Super G in Val d'Isere.
