Stephen Gionta

Stephen Gionta ( born October 9, 1983 in Rochester, New York ) is an American professional ice hockey player standing since 2010 with the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League under contract and playing in parallel for their farm team Albany Devils in the American Hockey League. His older brother Brian Gionta is also a professional hockey player.

Career

Stephen Gionta began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at the Rochester Junior Americans, for the American Hockey League, he was active in the Junior League North in the 1999/2000 season. He then spent two years playing for the U.S. National Team Development Program in the United States Hockey League and NAHL. From 2002 to 2006, he attended Boston College and played in parallel for the ice hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. In 2003 he was elected to the All- Academic Team Hockey East, 2005, he won with the Boston College Hockey East Championship. Towards the end of the 2005/06 season was the winger made ​​his debut in professional hockey when he was in three games for the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League, scoring five goals and an assist equipped with a sample contract.

From 2006 to 2010 Gionta played for the Lowell Devils of the American Hockey League. Internationally

For the U.S., Gionta took part in the U18 World Youth Championship in 2001. During the tournament he scored two goals in six games. At the World Championships in 2013 in Stockholm and Helsinki Gionta was a member of the Men's National Team and won the bronze medal with this.
