Straßwalchen is a municipality in the north of Salzburg ( Flachgau ) on the border with Upper Austria with 6987 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013).

Geography

Straßwalchen is part of the judicial district of Neumarkt in Salzburg. The highest point in the municipality is 844 meters, the Irrsberg.

The municipality comprises the cadastral Bruckmoos, Brunn, Haselreith, Irrsdorf, Straßwalchen country and Straßwalchen market.

History

The area around Straßwalchen was probably inhabited in the Neolithic period as the discovery of a hole ax suggests. From the Bronze Age and the Roman period the settlement on the basis of findings is detectable. Middle of the 6th century, was the acquisition of land by the Bavarians, which Straßwalchen probably owes its name. These so-called Roman or Romanized peoples as Walchen. On April 11, 799 it was first documented as " strazzuualaha ". 1243 came the reign Straßwalchen to the bishopric of Passau. 1286 came the toll facility in Straßwalchen, which had been part of the rule Wildenegg, to the Duchy of Bavaria, which was the occasion for many disputes over the centuries. The Archbishopric of Salzburg acquired in 1390 from the Bishopric of Passau rule Mattsee with Straßwalchen and the Court upfield. Straßwalchen received in 1462 by Archbishop Burkhard III. awarded market rights of Weißpriach, the throat or blood Court remained in Bavaria. 1576 leaves the archbishopric of Salzburg for the first time a high court ( gallows ) build in Straßwalchen, armed with Bayern escalated several times. 1759 even came to the liberation of prisoners from the prison by regular Bavarian troops. With the end of the archdiocese came Straßwalchen 1806-1810 completely under Bavarian rule, then the place came with the Salzburg finally to Austria. 1850 comes to merging of market and rural community Straßwalchen. With the opening of the Empress Elisabeth Railway 1860 Straßwalchen is connected to the railway network. 1914, the market is electrified. The construction of the motorway A1 in 1963, the importance of federal highway 1, which passes through Straßwalchen and the main connection between Vienna and Salzburg was from.

Culture and sights

The Pfleggericht was drafted in 1801 by the judicial district Neumarkt and since then is for the judicial district of Neumarkt.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the municipality is: " Argent, a black right oblique beams, covered with four silver horseshoe kicks that are on either side accompanied by three silver pebbles in alternating arrangement. " This coat of arms brings the central traffic Straßwalchens at a crossing point of two major ancient trade routes and expressed.

Traffic

Straßwalchen is located on the Western Railway and thus has a connection to the S -Bahn Salzburg. Straßwalchen is the terminus of the line S 2 The municipality is the hub, the travelers have to pursue a route between Mondsee, Salzburg, Franconia market or Braunau to happen. Furthermore, the location is right on the main road 1 The daily traffic volume of about 25,000 vehicles pass through the town.

Established businesses

The RAG operates an underground gas storage which over the Penta West pipeline is connected to the refinery in Burghausen in Straßwalchen Haidach.

The company Lagermax it maintains a very large distribution depot for new cars. Despite of its own, well-used siding, yet a large number of trips by road through the town center towards the highway is required.

Train

Straßwalchen has three elementary schools, as well as an ECO- secondary school. Is Salzburg 's largest solar panel plant on the south wall of the main school. The old main school building was renovated and since then a Oberstufenrealgymnasium is in it.
