Tarragonès
The Comarca Tarragonès located in the province of Tarragona of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia (Spain). The community association has an area of 312 km ² and 189 296 inhabitants (2009 ). The capital is Tarragona, where almost 2/3 of the population. 1936 was formed at a local government reform from the Camp de Tarragona three new Comarcas, one of which is Tarragonès.
Location
The community association is located in the south of Catalonia. It is bordered to the west by the comarca of Baix Camp, in the north of Alt Camp, Baix Penedès to the east and to the south by the 45km coastline of the Mediterranean. Together with the Comarcas Alt Camp, Baix Camp, Baix Penedès, Conca de Barberà, Priorat and forms the region 's territory Camp de Tarragona.
Tarragonès is located in a coastal plain of the Mediterranean Sea on the Costa Daurada. Only in the northeastern part, there are some surveys. The highest mountain is the la Mola (318 m). The lower courses of the rivers Francolí and Gaià traverse the Comarca from north to south and lead in the field of community association into the Mediterranean. In the municipality of Vespella Gaià is dammed by a dam.
Traffic
An excellent road network connects the villages of the community association. The AP-7/E-15 highway crosses the comarca along the coastline. The port of Tarragona is transit point for goods from around the Mediterranean. Marinas are located in Tarragona, Torredembarra and a smaller Salou. The railway line connects with the cities of Tarragona Barcelona and Valencia.
Economy
Long sandy beaches with fine sand have become a magnet for tourists from all over Europe. Especially the cities Torredembarra and Salou have grown into tourist centers. The theme park Port Aventura is an attraction for guests far beyond the region. The building boom in favor of industry and tourism have agriculture greatly suppressed in the interior. In the northeast, it still plays an important role. There, olives, grapes, almonds, vegetables and hazelnuts are grown. A significant industry has settled in Tarragona. In the port of Tarragona and the transshipment of goods is an important industry.
