History

Origin and Early History of Tettenweis are completely in the dark. For the first time the place Tettenweis in 1182 on a certificate as a " tetinvis " ( = stain or village of Teto or Tato ) is called. New settlements were then named after the founder. In the tradition of the Bishopric of Passau appears around 790 Tato, which may come as founder of Tettenweis in question. The syllable "prophesy " of the city name comes from the Old High German Tettenweis " wihs ", which meant "village". By the High German consonant shift was " wihs " or " scientific " to " advanced ". The NHG is expected from around 1500 and actually the name Tettenweis was written around 1400, still with "i" ( Tetenwis ).

The parish of Tettenweis was since the beginning of the 15th century a closed Hofmark with a small castle, which was surrounded by a pond. It was a ducal fief. The old castle was canceled in 1870 and the inn Lindlbauer erected in its place in 1879, which is now in turn been replaced by a new building. The new castle was built on the outskirts of Tettenweis in 1797 by Count Franz Xaver Peter by Joner on Tettenweiss. This castle was acquired by the wife Chiemsee monastery in 1899 and based in the same year by Benedictine nuns. A short time later this was extended to the Benedictine Abbey of St. Gertrud, which still exists in the present.

The church today Tettenweis is a typical rural community and was formed on 1 July 1970 from the communities Tettenweis, Upper Schwärzenbach and Poigham. 1978 was enforced by the state belonging to the former administrative community Griesbach, since 1 January 1990 Tettenweis is again an independent municipality.

Personalities

The community brought in its history produced a number of famous personalities like the two artist Franz von Stuck (1863-1928) and Ludwig Kirschner. Also, the community can make a reference to the Holy Rott Valley, namely having to Johann Birndorfer, later brother Konrad von Parzham. This occurred on July 16 of the year 1843 in the Scapulierbruderschaft to Toettenweis [ sic], a prayer community that was particularly devoted to the worship of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She played a central role in the life of St. Brother Conrad. In Tettenweis So let Johann Birndorfer of Maria taken by the hand and let her lead him to Jesus.
