Thierry Omeyer ( born November 2, 1976 in Mulhouse, France ) is a French handball goalkeeper who plays for French club Montpellier AHB. In 2008 he was elected World Handball Player. He is a Knight of the French Legion of Honour and Officer of the French National Order of Merit.
Career
Association
With Montpellier HB Omeyer won five French championships and cup titles. In 2003 he was with Montpellier Champions League winners. By THW Kiel he reached inter alia, in 2007 and 2012, the triple by winning the Champions League, DHB Cup and German Cup. After the 2012/13 season Thierry Omeyer returned to France and play again for Montpellier.
National
In September 1999, he was in the European Championship qualifier in Dijon in the game against Romania his debut for the French national team. With her was Omeyer 2008 and 2012 Olympic gold medalist, 2001, 2009 and 2011 world champion and 2006, 2010 and 2014 European champion.
Private
Thierry Omeyer is 1,91 m tall and weighs 95 kg. He is married and has a daughter and a son. His twin brother Christian, who played in the backcourt, stood for many years in the squad of the French club SC Sélestat.
