Træna

Træna is a Norwegian municipality with 500 inhabitants ( as of March 31, 2013). Through the community of Arctic Circle runs. The name comes from Old Norse Þriðna and possibly refers to the number þrír (three).

With an area of 15 km ², the municipality is one of the smallest in Norway. The area is spread over 1000 small islands, of which only Husøy, Selvær, Sanna, Sørsandøy and Nordsandøy are inhabited. The administrative center of the municipality is located on the island Husøy. It is also home to most of the population (about 380). The inhabitants live mainly from fishing.

The municipality can be reached only by boat. Connections with ferries and speedboats consist of Sandnessjøen, Nesna, Stokkvågen and Bodo.

On the islands there are many references to very early settlement. On the island of Sanna has found residues that are 9000 years old, making it one of the earliest evidence of settlement in Norway.
