UEFA Women's Euro 2013 qualifying

The qualifiers for the finals of the European Football Championship Women 2013 were held in the period from 3 March 2011 to October 2012. 44 of UEFA's 53 members played by eleven starting places at the finals in Sweden. The selection of the host is automatically qualified. No team reported the associations from Albania, Andorra, Azerbaijan, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Montenegro, San Marino and Cyprus.

Mode

The qualification was held in three rounds. The first qualifying round disputed only the eight weakest teams. They were divided into two groups of four teams each, the two participants playing off in mini-tournaments in the second qualifying round.

In the second qualifying round of the two group winners of the first round and the 36 seeded teams formed four groups of five teams and three groups of six. Within each group, each team played one home and one away match against each other. The group winners and the best runners-up qualify directly for the final tournament of the European Championship. For the determination of the best runners found it only matches against the First, Third, Fourth and Fifth of each group into account.

In the third qualifying round of the six remaining runners determined in playoffs the remaining three finals participants.

Second qualifying round

The draw for the second qualifying round was conducted on March 14, 2011 in Nyon. The 38 teams were divided to five Lostöpfe by the respective coefficients of the national teams. A total of seven groups were drawn: Three groups of six and four groups of five teams. Since the Football Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was threatened with expulsion from the UEFA, the national team was automatically set to sixth place in Group 1. This was to prevent a group of five is reduced to a group of four. The Lostöpfe were as follows:

  • Pot A: Germany, Norway, England, France, Italy, Denmark and Finland
  • Pot B: Russia, Netherlands, Iceland, Spain, Ukraine, Scotland and Czech Republic
  • Pot C: Switzerland, Poland, Republic of Ireland, Austria, Belgium, Belarus and Slovenia
  • Pot D: Hungary, Serbia, Portugal, Greece, Slovakia, Romania and Wales
  • Pot E: Bulgaria, Northern Ireland, Turkey, Israel, Estonia, Croatia, Kazakhstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Armenia and Macedonia

For the final competition, the seven group winners and the best runner-up qualified directly. The other runner-up determined in playoffs with back and leg three other participants. The playoffs were for the 20-21. and 24-25. Terminated in October 2012.

To determine the best runners included in the six groups, only the games against the First, Third, Fourth and Fifth.

The draw took place in Nyon on 21 September 2012. The playoff first leg took place on 24 and 25 October 20 and 21, the return games. For the draw three teams were based on the UEFA coefficients for women 's national teams set: Iceland, Russia and Spain, which first had to play away from home.

In the playoff games, the three seeded teams prevailed, so that it no newcomer managed to qualify for the final tournament. Scotland was until the second minute of stoppage time yet qualified, then succeeded Verónica Boquete, which had failed in the 119th minute even with a penalty, the 3-2 winning goal for Spain. Less effort had the Icelanders, who won both games against Ukraine 3-2 and were supported in the return match of the Icelandic record crowd of 6,647 spectators. Austria also lost the first leg on its own site, but in Russia reached a 1-1 and for the first time a point win against the Russians, which were first cared for by new coach Sergei Lavrentiev in the playoff games.
