Vasaloppet
The Vasaloppet (Swedish Vasaloppet ) is one of the largest cross-country ski events in the world and a run of Worldloppet series. The main run is held every year on the first weekend in March between the villages halls and Mora in the Swedish dala on the Vasaloppsleden about 90 km classic technique. History
The Wasa - run was an idea of the newspaper editor Anders Pers. He wanted to remember the historic flight of Gustav I Vasa on skis from the soldiers of the Danish King Christian II in 1521.
In Sweden the year 1520 there was a great dissatisfaction with the union with Denmark under the leadership of the Danish king. The Gustav Eriksson Vasa Adelmann openly called for resistance and was captured then. But he managed to escape. So he got into the Dalarna. In Mora him the news that his father, his brother and 80 more followers were beheaded during the Stockholm Bloodbath. But now the farmers were still skeptical. So Gustav Vasa was forced to continue his flight to the West.

The modern Vasaloppet
History
The first modern Vasaloppet on the 90 km long stretch was held on March 19, 1922 with 119 participants, according to the former Vossische newspaper with 136 participants rather. The Vasaloppet today
Today at the different runs during the Wasalaufwoche in total participate tens of thousands of people. For the Vasaloppet 2014 2013 33,800 skiers had registered for the three 90 -km stretch in October. Records
The record time of 3.38,41 hours for the 90 km was set up in 2012 by the Swede Jörgen Brink. The run starts in any weather, so resulting in the winning times differences of several hours depending on the temperature.
