Janne Stefansson

Janne Stefansson ( born March 19, 1935 in Transtrand ) is a former Swedish cross-country skier.

Career

Stefansson participated twice at the Olympic Winter Games. In 1960, he took over 15 km of the seventh. With the 4x10 km relay he missed a medal just barely.

His greatest achievement was winning the gold medal in the 4x10 km relay at the Olympic Winter Games in 1964 in Innsbruck in the occupation of Karl- Åke Asph, Sixten Jernberg, Janne Stefansson and Assar Rönnlund. As a single starter, he participated in the competitions over 15km ( 5th place), 30 km ( 4 ) and 50 km ( 4 ) part.

Two years earlier he had won at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane the silver medal over 30 km.

Between 1962 and 1969 he won seven times the Vasaloppet. During this period, he was only beaten in 1967 by his countryman and fellow Gold Season of 1964, Assar Rönnlund, and reached a second goal. He is after the 9- time winner of the Wasalaufes, Nils " Mora - Nisse " Karlsson, the most successful participants in this tradition run.
