Verkhny Ufaley

Werchni Ufalei (Russian Верхний Уфалей ) is a city in Chelyabinsk Oblast (Russia) with 30 481 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city lies on the southeastern edge of the Middle Urals about 140 km northwest of the Oblasthauptstadt Chelyabinsk at the Ufaleika, a right tributary of the Ufa river system in the Kama.

Werchni Ufalei is the Oblast administratively subordinated directly.

The town lies on the railway line opened in 1896 Yekaterinburg - Chelyabinsk.

History

Werchni Ufalei originated in 1761 with the establishment of ironworks Ufaleiski zavod. Upon the establishment of an additional plant downriver in 1813 this work was to Werchne - Ufaleiski - Zavod ( Upper Ufalei plant).

In the 1930s, was built here on the basis of local ore deposits a nickel refinery. The associated growth of the place was worn with the awarding of municipal law on April 26, 1940 statement.
