Were examined by the Rhenish provincial administration in Bonn ringwalls on lying in the vicinity of the place mountains Hummelberg and Asberg in the 1930s, attributable to the Hunsrück- Eifel culture and were built in the period 600-400 BC. The circular walls were destroyed by the basalt degradation.

The place name is probably from the time of the late Early Middle Ages. The last syllable was in the 9th century, but " Sciotz " 960 " Scoz ", which referred to the Old High German the gable end of a building, actually a protection granted ahead. " Vettel " is related to the Gothic " fatha ", Middle High German " vade " or "fade" for fence or septum. Thus Vettelschoss could as much as " containment, which is located on the protected side of the mountain Will Scheider " mean. According to another interpretation of the name is " Vettel " derived from the Old High German personal name " Wetilo ", which is synonymous with Voteipächter or pledge agreement. The field names " Beielsberg " and " Beielswiese ", also called " Bilsberg ", " Bilswiese ", " Bilstein meadow " written, could indicate Cunegonde from Bilstein. Their daughter Hedwig of Gudensberg bequeathed in 1100 their Rhenish possessions her husband Ludwig, among other things, that belonged to the Altenwied Vettelschoss later in office. The field names listed could therefore indicate a settlement around 1100.
