Villers-la-Ville, Haute-Saône

Villers- la -Ville is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Villers- la- Ville is located at an altitude of 290 m above the sea, 2 km east of Villers Exel, and 24 km east-southeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village extends in the plane of Villersexel, in the valley of the Ruisseau des Grands Prés in the catchment of Ognon.

The area of ​​5.87 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the plains at Villers Exel. The central part of the area is occupied by a trough, which is drained by the Ruisseau des Grands Prés northeast to Scey. In two places the stream was dammed to form a pond, including the Etang de Coulvon. The valley is flanked by a plateau, which is on average 300 m and is composed of limestone. It is used predominantly agricultural, but also shows some forest areas. The northern municipal boundary is marked by the river of Scey. To the south, the municipality's area extends to the foot of the heights of Mélecey. West of the village is the highest elevation of Villers- la -Ville is achieved with 321 m.

Neighboring communities of Villers- la-Ville, Saint- Sulpice and Villa fans in the north, and Beveuge Villargent in the east, Mélecey and Les Magny in the south and Villersexel in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Villers- la -Ville in the 12th century under the name Villario villa. In the Middle Ages Villers- la -Ville belonged to the rule Granges, which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard. Later it was part of the rule Villersexel. Together with the Franche -Comté reached Villers- la -Ville with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2000, Villers- la -Ville is a member of the 33- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Villers Exel.

Attractions

The village church of Notre- Dame de la Nativity was built in the 19th century in neo-Renaissance style, where the bell tower (1752 ) of the previous building was included. In-room amenities include a baptismal font from the 17th century as well as a wealth of furniture and statues from the 18th century. In the center a few houses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved in the characteristic style of the Haute -Saône.

Population

With 164 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Villers- la -Ville is one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 257 persons were still counted ), small fluctuations were recorded since then only.

Economy and infrastructure

Villers- la -Ville was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road that leads from Villersexel after Héricourt. Further road links exist with Villa fans, Beveuge and Le Grand- Magny.
