Water polo at the 1952 Summer Olympics

In the XV. 1952 Olympics in Helsinki took place a water polo tournament. Venue was the Uimastadion.

The tournament began with the first qualifying round, competed in the ten set not set against ten teams; Argentina had a bye this. Then the five losers played in the second qualifying round for the remaining seats in the first round. The remaining 16 teams met in the drawn four preliminary round groups of each other, the two best teams moved into the semi-finals ( results of direct encounters were taken ). In the two semi-final groups, the procedure was repeated. The two best teams played then in the final round for the places 1 to 4, the worse the 5th to 8th places
