Light Heavyweight ( up to 82.5 kg )

Paliński won the first gold medal in weightlifting since 1948, which was neither in the U.S. nor the Soviet Union.

Vorobyov defended his title successfully, surpassing his own world record by 2.5 kg.
Heavyweight ( over 90 kg)

Vlasov surpassed the world record of the U.S. lifter Paul Anderson by 25 kg.
