Weightlifting at the 1960 Summer Olympics

In the XVII. 1960 Olympic Games in Rome seven competitions were held in weightlifting. Venue was the Palazzetto dello Sport with a capacity of 5,000 spectators.

Bantamweight (up to 56 kg )

Featherweight (up to 60 kg)

Minayev hired the world record of defending champion Isaac Berger.

Lightweight ( to 67.5 kg)

Buschujew surpassed his own world record by 7.5 kg. In this competition both Singapore and Iraq each won the only medal in the Olympics at all.

Middleweight (up to 75 kg)

Kurynow surpassed the world record of Kono by 7.5 kg.

Light Heavyweight ( up to 82.5 kg )

Start: September 9: 9.00 Clock

Paliński won the first gold medal in weightlifting since 1948, which was neither in the U.S. nor the Soviet Union.

Medium weight ( 90 kg )

Start: September 9: 17.00 clock

Vorobyov defended his title successfully, surpassing his own world record by 2.5 kg.

Heavyweight ( over 90 kg)

Start: September 10: 20.00 clock

Vlasov surpassed the world record of the U.S. lifter Paul Anderson by 25 kg.
